The Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund will celebrate its first Day of Giving on March 21.
There are over 130,000 single parents in Arkansas, many of whom struggle to afford higher education. The Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund has worked to create stronger, more educated and more self-sufficient families.
This 24-hour event will raise funds to support low-income single parents pursuing a higher education. Cabot, Conway, Jonesboro, Maumelle and North Little Rock have officially declared the day.
The community can get involved by donating online, becoming an ASPSF ambassador or going to The Filling Station at 3623 John F. Kennedy Boulevard on March 21, where all donations made will be matched.
Participants are also encouraged to make a video of themselves juggling “to represent all the activities that single parents balance alone” and share it on social media.
One recipient of funds from ASPSF is Shae Hughes. About 10 years ago, Hughes and her daughter were living paycheck to paycheck with help from food stamps and other government assistance. Today, she’s working for JLL as a marketing and community engagement manager, thanks to a bachelor degree she acquired through hard work and scholarships like ASPSF.
Gifts made on the ASPSF Day of Giving will go toward scholarships, service-learning workshops, emergency support funds, an endowed scholarship, an annual fund and wherever else they’re needed most.
