The BridgeWay will now be treating adult opioid addiction.
The North Little Rock-based psychiatric hospital added an acute rehabilitation program for adults in August 2020. This program is designed to treat adults with substance use disorders, particularly those with a risk of relapse.
According to Dr. John Schay, this addition will expand the Bridgeway’s treatment options, providing a “full continuum of care” for patients. In addition to the new opioid addiction treatment, the BridgeWay also offers medical detoxification, acute rehabilitation, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient treatement and medication-assisted treatment.
Schay, the BridgeWay’s medical director of substance use treatment and Patriot Support Program, will oversee the program alongside Brooks Higginbotham, outpatient services manager.
“Through these additional levels of treatment including acute rehabilitation services,” Schay said in a statement. “We have a full continuum of care that allows a person to transition between different levels of care as they progress towards returning to their community. By treating opioid addiction, we are addressing a major healthcare crisis.”
Drug overdoses and opioid addiction are significant issues in the United States and in Arkansas. Since 1999, more than 760,000 individuals have died from drug overdoses, based on U.S. Department of Health and Human Services figures. In Arkansas, opioids were connected to 46,802 deaths in 2018, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse.
