Special Olympics Arkansas was recently awarded a Silver Award from the American Society of Interior Designers South Central Chapter for the design of its Legacy Building, its 7,500-square-foot headquarters in North Little Rock.
Designed to support the mission of Special Olympics Arkansas, the Legacy Building provides a centralized space for staff, volunteers and athletes, advancing year-round sports training and competition for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Special Olympics Arkansas serves more than 19,500 athletes across all 75 counties in the state.
The design is inspired by the idea of movement, reflecting the energy of the athletes it serves, according to a press release. Inside, custom ceiling baffles create rhythm and variation through light and shadow, while angular red elements define circulation paths and highlight key spaces within the building. A central gathering space supports events and daily interaction, while a Legacy Wall honors donors and reinforces the organization’s mission.
“This project was about creating a space that reflects the energy, purpose, and people behind Special Olympics Arkansas,” said Abbey Redmon, senior interior designer at WDD Architects. “We focused on creating a place that brings people together to support the mission every day. We were honored to be part of a project that impacts so many individuals, families, and communities across the state.”
The ASID South Central Chapter Design Awards recognize outstanding interior design projects across Arkansas, Louisiana and Oklahoma.
