Sephora will be coming to a Kohl’s as part of a new long-term partnership that will see mini Sephora shops in hundreds of Kohl’s stores.
On Monday, Dec. 1, the two companies announced that they would be partnering on both in-store and online platforms. The biggest takeaway, though, was the store collaboration.
Two hundred “Sephora at Kohl’s” shops are expected to open by fall 2021. At these locations, customers can find more than 100 curated beauty brands and products from Sephora, and there will be a larger assortment available on Kohls.com.
The number of “Sephora at Kohl’s” shops is expected to increase to more than 850 stores by 2023.
Sephora will replace the current in-store beauty displays in Kohl’s stores with prominent front-of-store positioning and exterior signage. The “fully immersive, premium beauty destination” will be designed within a 2,500 square foot space and will be staffed by Sephora-trained “Beauty Advisors.”
“At Sephora, delivering a strong client experience through passionate employees is at the heart of who we are, and we are thrilled to find a partner who shares this identity. This is not a pop-up collaboration, but an investment our brand partners can rely on for the long-term; as a company with a history of sustained decades-long partnerships, Sephora has every confidence in the future of this collaboration and the unique experiences it will bring to consumers across the U.S.,” Sephora Americas president and CEO Jean-André Rougeot Americas said in a statement. “Our partnership will be built on expanding our complementary reach and scale in-store and online, creating customer-centric, prestige experiences, collaborating on new innovations, and living our shared values. We fully believe Kohl’s is the ideal partner to bring this vision to life.”
As part of the partnership, Kohls.com and Sephora.com will have an “integrated online shopping experience” that will allow shoppers to identify the closest Sephora or Kohl’s stores with their beauty products available. Kohl’s will allow for in-store returns, store pick-ups and curbside pick-ups for Sephora products, and all purchases will be eligible for Sephora’s Beauty Insider rewards benefits.
Currently, Sephora operates 2,600 stores with 500 in the Americas. Kohl’s has more than 1,150 locations in 49 states. In Arkansas, there are currently two Sephora locations with a third planned for the Promenade at Chenal. Kohl’s has locations in Bryant, Conway, Fayetteville, Fort Smith, Jonesboro, Little Rock and Sherwood.
This is not the first retailer partnership for Sephora. Currently, the beauty brand has a partnership with JCPenney, but this is slated to expire in 2023. There are multiple “Sephora inside JCPenney” shops in Arkansas, including Little Rock, North Little Rock, Russellville, Searcy, Fayetteville and Hot Springs, according to an online listing.
The companies have not announced which Kohl’s stores will feature the Sephora shops.
With the news of the partnership, Kohl’s saw its stock leap in value on Tuesday morning. With a closing value of $32.19 per share for Monday, the stock rose more than $4 per share upon opening. As of 12:30 p.m., the stock was resting at $36.51 per share, up $4.31 or 13.39 percent.
