Gov. Asa Hutchinson has been re-elected to chair the Southern Regional Education Board.
This is the second time Hutchinson has been elected to a one-year term as the SREB chairman since becoming governor in 2015. He also previously served as the chairman for the SREB’s Commission on Computer Science and Information Technology.
“The SREB is a vital leader in improving education for our children from their first day in school to the day they walk the stage to accept their diploma,” Governor Hutchinson said. “The leaders of SREB understand the importance of computer science education and have been a strong supporter of our efforts in Arkansas, in the south, and nationally. I am honored for this second opportunity to serve SREB as chairman.”
Hutchinson previously served as the SREB chairman in 2015-16.
The SREB is a nonprofit organization that works with 16 states (Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia) to improve public education. According to the SREB website, the organization provides independent data and recommendations to lawmakers to policymakers while also helping educators with professional development.
