After more than 37 years with Cromwell Architects Engineers, CEO Greg Cockmon will retire effective July 10.
A Little Rock native, Cockmon joined the firm as an intern architect in 1989 after earning an associate degree in Architectural Engineering Technology from Southern Arkansas University Tech and a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Arkansas Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design. Over the course of his career, he advanced through the organization, serving as president for 12 years before becoming CEO in 2020.
“When I joined Cromwell as an intern architect in 1989, I never imagined the journey that was ahead of me,” said Cockmon. “What began as my first job became a lifelong career filled with opportunities to serve clients, work alongside talented professionals, and help shape a company that has meant so much to me. I am grateful for the people and experiences that have defined my career and for the privilege of helping lead this organization. I look forward to seeing the continued growth at Cromwell, from a different perspective, and how they continue to shape the communities they serve.”
During his tenure, Cockmon helped oversee significant growth at the Arkansas-based architecture and engineering firm. According to Cromwell, the company more than doubled in size, expanded into new markets, opened additional offices and strengthened its federal architecture and engineering practice, working with the Department of Defense and other federal agencies.
Cockmon also supported workforce development efforts by helping establish endowed scholarships at the University of Arkansas Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design and the University of Arkansas College of Engineering.
Outside the office, he has served in leadership roles with organizations including the American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity and his local church. He remains involved with Habitat for Humanity of Central Arkansas.
“Greg’s leadership has transformed Cromwell in ways that will be felt for generations,” said Dan Fowler, president of Cromwell Architects Engineers. “He has guided the firm through tremendous growth while never losing sight of what matters most – our people, our clients, and our commitment to excellence. Under his leadership, Cromwell expanded its reach, strengthened its culture, and positioned itself for a bright future. We are grateful for his decades of service and the lasting legacy he leaves behind.”
In retirement, Cockmon plans to spend more time with his wife and family, travel, enjoy the outdoors, play golf, support the Razorbacks and continue working with organizations that are important to him.
