Arkansas’ government and other state-run entities like universities and public schools are in the red. The debt totals near $17 million in bonded debt and debt owed by schools, unfunded liabilities in pension plans and employee benefits in general.
To break that down into numbers relating to the average citizen, this debt if split up would add up to $5,600 for every Arkansan. While this number pales in comparison to the $61,000 in national debt taken on by each citizen, it is still a number that doesn’t quite add up in reference to Arkansas’ Revenue Stabilization Act.
