Flag and Banner, located in the historic Taborian Hall at 800 W 9th Street in Little Rock, is undergoing some changes to its retail space, owner Kerry McCoy said.
She said that Flag and Banner will “stick to our core business” but move the retail store’s entrance to the back entrance of the building, which is its warehouse.
To kick off the change and celebrate its 50th anniversary, Flag and Banner will have a 50-percent-off sale the week leading up to Labor Day.
McCoy said in an online post that she spoke with restaurateur and jazz saxophonist Joe Johnson about opening up a supper club in the old Flag and Banner space in the building.
“Although we’ve kept in touch and talk often, Joe’s busy touring schedule has made it tough to move the project forward,” she said in her post. “I still hold out hope, but have decided to wait no longer.”
She said she hopes someone will take the space to build a restaurant, or she may even do it herself, saying Little Rock needs more jazz spaces and a “watering hole.”
She’s not sure how it will unfold, but is taking it “one bite at a time.”
She said she thinks it’ll be at least a year before she can open a restaurant in the space, but she said to “stay tuned.”
