Razorbacks athletics director Hunter Yurachek has signed a five-year contract extension, bumping his annual pay to $1.25 million through 2027.
Yurachek also is eligible to receive up to $175,000 a year in bonuses, based on annual evaluations of the athletics department’s performance. The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported the news on Thursday.
Arkansas finished eighth in the latest Learfield Director’s Cup standings which rank Division 1 athletics departments based on overall success over the course of an academic year. The finish represents the best ever for the UA, which regularly finishes higher than any other program that sponsors 19 or fewer men’s and women’s sports.
Hired in Dec. 2017, Yurachek has overseen resurgent success in football and men’s basketball, and the UA remains one of few programs nationally that continues to operate in the black, even through the pandemic.
Yurachek’s new contract represents a $400,000 raise. According to the Democrat-Gazette report, his base university salary will be $566,000, just under the maximum salary allowed for state employees under state law. He will receive $684,000 for “speaking engagements, TV and radio interviews and other sponsorship obligations.”
The University of Arkansas system board is expected to officially approve the contract at its next meeting, scheduled for March 16-17 in Little Rock.
