The Alice L. Walton School of Medicine in Bentonville has welcomed three accomplished professionals into key leadership roles, aiming to strengthen its commitment to innovation in medical education.
Dr. Shahrzad Bazargan-Hejazi, now assistant dean of research education, brings extensive experience from Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science. She will develop the school’s research curriculum and oversee student projects.
Dr. Chris Candler, the new senior associate dean for faculty affairs and development, begins Nov. 18. With 28 years in medical education, Candler previously served as senior associate dean for academic affairs at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine, where he led all MD and PA educational programs. His work has garnered over $1 million in grants from national agencies, with publications on medical education topics and experience as founding editor-in-chief of the AAMC’s MedEdPORTAL journal.
James Dockery assumes the role of chief compliance officer, overseeing compliance and privacy programs at the school. As a former director at USAA and judge advocate general in the Air Force, Dockery’s legal background includes roles at the University of Texas at Dallas and Walmart Inc. His decorated military service and private sector leadership position him to advance the school’s commitment to legal and ethical standards.
