Sometimes overlooked because of its placement between Halloween and Thanksgiving, Veterans Day is all about giving back and saying thank you to the brave men and women who put it all on the line for our country’s safety and prosperity. On the ramp-up to the holiday, Walmart kicked off a campaign for donations and music.
Their Spark Good Roundup Program started Wednesday and runs until Nov. 15, allowing customers to donate through the Walmart website/app while the retail giant has committed to matching every dollar two-to-one up to $1 million for veterans organization Operation Homefront. The group provides direct financial support to military families with financial burdens and strains. According to a press release by Walmart, the program has already helped Little Rock Army Veteran Artaveus Grant, a former staff sergeant and single father who medically retired last year after 13 years of service. The organization’s TH-A program helped him secure a rent-free apartment that helped him pay off his debt and improve his credit, allowing him to purchase a home in North Little Rock. The program last year raised more than $3.2 million for veterans nationwide.
In addition to the Spark Good Round Up program, Walmart has given more than $10 million to veteran-serving organizations since February 2022. The retailer has also hired more than 400,000 veterans and military spouses since 2013. Outside of the Veterans Day season, Walmart has continued its support, investing $1.2 billion in veteran-owned businesses in the last financial year, including companies like Busy Baby, Bon AppeSweet and Operation Good Boy. They also work with businesses such as these to provide mentorship and training that help veterans navigate the complex business world.
All this is certainly enough to sing about. And that’s where musician and veteran Zach Bryan comes in.
Walmart is celebrating veterans through a three-part series highlighting veteran-owned businesses on platforms such as Spotify, Pandora, YouTube, TikTok and more. Each part features a different Zach Bryan song and the veterans’ stories of how music plays an important role in their lives. The three songs will be “American Nights,” “Pink Skies” and “Revival.”
