Walmart is taking further precautions to minimize the spread of the coronavirus.
Stores have already started closing overnight for cleaning, installing sneeze guards at checkout and pharmacies, using wipes and sprayers for carts and putting up signs to encourage social distancing.
In a letter to associates, Walmart U.S. president and CEO John Furner and Sam’s Club president and CEO Kath McLay wrote that the Bentonville retailer would be enacting a range of preventative measures designed to limit the spread of COVID-19 at Walmart and Sam’s Club stores.
“As our company and country continue to deal with the spread of COVID-19, we remain focused on the health and safety of our associates. We continue to follow and communicate the CDC’s recommended guidance on behaviors like washing hands, social distancing and the cleaning of surfaces.”
Associates are having their temperatures taken as they report to work in stores, clubs and facilities. Any associate with a temperature of 100.0 degrees will be paid for reporting to work and asked to return home and seek medical treatment if necessary. The associate will be able to return to work if they are fever-free for at least three days. Associates are encouraged to stay home if they have any COVID-19 related symptoms. Walmart is also supplying associates with masks and gloves.
Some locations have implemented a policy to only use one entrance and exit in addition to limiting the number of people in the store to 50.
