Walmart+ will be getting much more competitive with the removal of a shipping minimum.
The retailer announced that it would be removing a $35 shipping minimum for members shopping on Walmart.com, just in time for the holidays. Launched on Sept. 15, the Walmart+ membership service allows customers to pay a flat rate for unlimited free delivery, fuel discounts and more.
This new policy will go into effect on Friday, Dec. 4.
As a result of the new policy, Walmart+ members will receive free next-day and two-day shipping for most items shipped by Walmart. However, delivery from Walmart stores on groceries and select items will still have a $35 minimum.
“It feels like a life hack is needed now more than ever, and Walmart+ is here to help,” Janey Whiteside, Walmart’s chief customer officer, said in a statement. “No other membership allows customers across the country to get everything from gingerbread cookies and eggnog to holiday decorations and toys delivered for free as soon as the same day. Walmart+ is designed to make life easier – giving customers an option to not have to sacrifice on cost or convenience.”
Other Walmart+ benefits include the use of Scan & Go, a Walmart app, that allows customers to scan items as they shop and pay using Walmart Pay, as well as a 5-cent per gallon fuel discount at Walmart, Murphy USA and Murphy Express fuel stations.
Walmart has also expanded its fuel discounts to Sam’s Club fuel stations. In total, customers can access 2,000 fuel stations from Walmart and Murphy, as well as approximately 500 Sam’s Club locations.
The service costs $98 per year or $12.95 per month for customers. There is also a 15-day free trial for Walmart+.
