The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock recently welcomed Nicholas D. Tingquist, a fellowship-trained, board-certified thoracic surgeon, as an assistant professor in the UAMS College of Medicine’s Division of Thoracic Surgery.
Tingquist sees patients at the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute at UAMS and the UAMS Baptist Health Cancer Center at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock.
He treats patients with lung and esophageal cancers, as well as other cancers of the chest and non-cancerous thoracic conditions such as infectious lung disease, emphysema, pulmonary fibrosis, reflux and hernias. In addition, he performs minimally invasive laparoscopic and thoracoscopic procedures, as well as robotic chest and abdominal surgery.
Tingquist grew up in Sherwood and is a summa cum laude graduate of the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. He earned his medical degree and completed his residency in general surgery at UAMS before completing a cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn.
“We are delighted that Dr. Tingquist returned home to Arkansas to join our growing cancer-surgery team at UAMS,” said Michael Birrer, director of the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute and vice chancellor for UAMS. “With high rates of lung cancer in our state, his help is needed. We can offer more patients the latest robotic and minimally invasive surgical options to treat their disease.”
In 2020, UAMS honored Tingquist with the Chris Hackler Award for Excellence in Medical Ethics and named him Resident of the Year. In addition, he was recognized as an outstanding resident by the Vanderbilt University Department of Thoracic Surgery.
He has authored three book chapters on surgical techniques and robotic thoracic surgery, and he is a member of the American Medical Association, the American College of Surgeons and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
New adult patients can make an appointment with Tingquist by calling 501-296-1200.
