The University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville is launching a firefighter rookie school in partnership with White River Firefighter Training Association and area fire departments.
The program utilizes a partnership and curriculum through the Arkansas Fire Training Academy in Camden, according to a press release. The program, covering Firefighter I and II material, starts Oct. 6 and will run for 38 weeks.
“We want to support the next generation of fire fighters in our area,” said Stacey Caplener, Pleasant Plains fire chief. “By working with the Arkansas Fire Training Academy and UACCB, we can make sure they have a good foundation.”
Local fire departments and the chiefs of the White River Training Association will provide equipment, vehicles and instructors. Captain Robert Beel of the Searcy Fire Department will serve as the lead instructor.
