Update: Feb. 13, 2025 – The Senate has officially voted to confirm RFK Jr. as secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services after weeks of discussions about whether or not the nominee was too controversial to win the Senate’s overall vote, according to multiple media outlets.
Kennedy was confirmed by a 52 to 48 vote, with Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell – a survivor of childhood polio – joining the Democrats in voting against Kennedy. McConnell cited his record on vaccines as the reason why RFK Jr. “failed to prove he is the best possible person” for the job, according to CBS News.

Original: Nov. 14, 2024 – President-elect Donald Trump has announced Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as the United States Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS).
“For too long, Americans have been crushed by the industrial food complex and drug companies who have engaged in deception, misinformation, and disinformation when it comes to Public Health,” Trump stated.
Trump went on to say that the safety and health of Americans takes priority under any administration, and that the HHS will be a leader in keeping people protected from things such as harmful chemicals, pollutants, pesticides, pharmaceutical products and food additives.
“Mr. Kennedy will restore these Agencies to the traditions of Gold Standard Scientific Research, and beacons of Transparency, to end the Chronic Disease epidemic, and to Make America Great and Healthy Again!” Trump added.
Last month, Kennedy made the heavy implication that public health agencies would be a target for reformation.
“…If you work for the FDA and are part of this corrupt system, I have two messages for you: 1. Preserve your records, and 2. Pack your bags,” Kennedy posted to X.
This position still requires confirmation from the Senate.
