SEC Storied Film, “True Character,” will make its debut tonight, Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2023, at 8 p.m. on SEC Network.
The film focuses on the path of two key players in the history of Arkansas Razorbacks football; specifically former quarterback Clint Stoerner and former offensive lineman Brandon Burlsworth. The film showcases their beginnings in 1998, leading up to and following the aftermath of “Stoernover” – their defeat against Tennessee, who would later become the national champion. It is now the 25th anniversary of the game.
“The unlikely connection between two gifted athletes, Brandon Burlsworth and Clint Stoerner, drew me to the story of the fumble, and how that split-second play in a crucial game would change their lives forever,” the film’s director, David Beilinson, told SEC Sports. “Discovering that both men shared a dogged determination, a passion for competition, and remarkable self-confidence that would propel them to the top of their sport, revealed a narrative that transcends sports. Clint explains that true character is revealed in times of adversity, and they both shrugged off criticism and naysayers to overcome the obstacles in their way. Their journey at Arkansas is a testament to unwavering dedication and unwritten possibility.”
Burlsworth was drafted into the NFL the year after “Stoernover,” but died shortly after in an auto accident. In 1999, Stoerner led Arkansas to victory in a “redemption game” against Tennessee to avenge the previous loss and pay tribute to his fallen teammate.
The Brandon Burlsworth Foundation held an early screening last night in Harrison. The foundation encourages everyone to catch the airing of it tonight on SEC Network.
