Trey Schapp of Little Rock’s 103.7 The Buzz reported Wednesday morning that Alex Golesh of South Florida has accepted an offer to become the next Arkansas head football coach.
Nothing has yet been sent to the University of Arkansas System board for approval, and no other reporters, local or national, have confirmed.
Trey Biddy of Hawg Sports reported, however, that the offer was made to Golesh but it had not yet been accepted as of 11 a.m. Wednesday.
“Another source says North Texas’ Eric Morris was in the mix, but he was not a finalist for the position,” Biddy posted. “Morris has since accepted the job at Oklahoma State. And yet another source says Alabama defensive coordinator Kane Womack might have been next in the pecking order had Golesh not accepted. Sources indicate Ole Miss might also have been a landing spot for Golesh had that position opened.”
Arkansas has been in the market for a new head Hog since Sam Pittman was fired in late September. Offensive coordinator and former Razorback head coach Bobby Petrino was named interim head coach and a candidate for the permanent position, but the Hogs have gone winless since opening the season with consecutive blowout wins over Alabama A&M and Arkansas State. The Hogs finish the 2025 season Saturday at home against Missouri.
On Wednesday morning, Petrino posted a thank-you note — not a good-bye — to Hog fans on social media:
