North Little Rock Police Department Officer Tommy Norman has announced his retirement from the position, effective immediately.
On Monday, Sept. 22, Norman made the announcement in a video on his Facebook account. He worked with NLRPD for 27 years. The news comes a little over a week after he was arrested in connection with what was described as a “domestic violence” incident.
“After what’s transpired in the last week in my personal life, I feel like it’s time to leave law enforcement and to serve my community in a different capacity,” Norman said, noting that this was a decision he made on his own.
Norman first joined the force in 1998 with a passion to serve his community. He says he will continue to do so, just without a badge.
“I’ve said, over the last several years, ‘You don’t have to be a police officer to make a difference in the community,'” Norman said. “Now, I get to go out and prove to myself and prove to other people that.”
During his time serving the community as a policeman, Tommy Norman has amassed nearly 4 million followers on social media and is known worldwide.

After 27 years, I’m announcing my retirement from the North Little Rock Police Department. I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve the citizens of North Little Rock for almost three decades. I look forward to continue serving the community in a different capacity. My motto has always been “if you show up, come back” and I’ll continue to come back for a community I now consider family. I want to express my gratitude to my brothers and sisters in blue who I developed a special relationship with during my career. Please be safe and remember this, your badge should have a heartbeat, not an ego. Godspeed!
