A planned announcement on team sports and summer camps has been delayed by a day.
Gov. Asa Hutchinson told reporters on May 12 that he would announce the state’s decision on opening summer camps and team sports during the summer. However, Hutchinson is in Washington, D.C. for a conference with President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence.
According to Arkansas Department of Health Secretary Dr. Nathaniel Smith, the announcement will be made Thursday, May 21. He said that the decision has been made and released in specific instances to the specific industries involved in the announcement.
“For the overnight camps, we’ve already communicated some of those important dates to the industry to give them time to prepare, but we’ll go ahead and make those announcements tomorrow, both about teams sports, summer sports, as well as summer camps,” he said.
Earlier this week, state officials announced that restaurant bars would be allowed to open on Tuesday, May 19. However, standalone bars will be required to wait one additional week to open on Tuesday, May 27.
