Arkansas State University is moving the proposed Windgate Center for the Three-Dimensional Arts facility, a move that will save parking and mesh with the university’s campus master plan.
A-State Chancellor Kelly Damphousse says the facility will be shifted to the east of its originally planned site, south of the of the Fine Arts Center. Now, the facility is planned to be located east of the Fine Arts Center.
Moving the location of the arts facility will save roughly 200 reserved parking spaces in two lots. However, several on-campus homes will be demolished to accommodate the Windgate Center. According to an A-State release, many of these homes were already set for removal as part of the university’s master plan.
“I’m very pleased that all parties involved saw this as a great compromise for the campus,” Damphousse said in a statement. “It is a more efficient use of our land as the footprint better fits the building design, but it also stays close to our Fine Arts Center. It will assist with campus beautification as we remove some older housing.”
