Private clubs in dry Arkansas counties that operate microbreweries will be able to advertise their brews legally through electronic means once a new state law takes effect on Aug. 5.
The law will allow them to advertise their location, menus and events on social media and their own websites. Previously, advertising restrictions had been placed on what microbrewery operators in dry counties could do.
“Before this legislation was passed, it was unclear if I’d be breaking the law if a customer called to ask if a beer he liked last week was still on tap and I told him ‘yes,'” a Conway microbrewery owner told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
The legislation was sponsored by Rep. Matt Brown (R-Conway) and Sen. Mark Johnson (R-Ferndale). The law, which still prohibits traditional advertising, will impact just seven microbreweries in dry counties around the state.
Twenty-nine of the state’s 75 counties are wet.
