Southern Bancorp has named Mike Myers, former CFO of Winrock International and long-time Southern Bancorp board director, as its interim Chief Financial Officer.
“Mike Myers is a proven leader with a deep understanding of Southern Bancorp’s mission, and I can think of no better person to lead our financial team as we conduct a national search for our next CFO,” CEO Darrin Williams said.
Myers retired recently from Winrock International, where he served as CFO since 1997. Before that, he held senior financial management positions with two Fortune 200 companies and has been a Southern Bancorp holding company board member since 2015.
“It’s an honor to help lead Southern Bancorp during this transition,” Myers said. “Having served as a board director for many years, I’m deeply committed to its mission and excited about its growth trajectory. I look forward to helping support a smooth transition to our next CFO.”
A certified public accountant, Myers holds a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Arkansas and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Henderson State University (HSU). He has also served as Chair of the Board of Trustees at HSU and is an inductee of the HSU School of Business Hall of Fame and the HSU Academy of Scholars.
The interim appointment follows the departure of former CFO Chris Wewers. Southern Bancorp has engaged a firm to conduct a national search for his successor.
“We’re grateful for Chris’ years of service to our company and our mission,” Williams added. “Looking ahead, we are excited about identifying a strong pool of candidates eager to help grow our organization, our markets, and our mission of being wealth builders for everyone.”
Headquartered in Arkadelphia, Southern Bancorp is a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) that has grown into a $2.6B asset organization with 56 locations serving customers across the Mid-South.
