Located at 2800 Graham Road in Jacksonville, the AGFF Jacksonville Shooting Sports Complex is the largest of its kind in the state and is home to 14 trap fields and three skeet overlays. This year, the Jacksonville Parks and Recreation Department is excited to kick off the range’s 10th anniversary with an event unlike any that the range has seen before.
The annual Mack’s Prairie Wings (MPW) Shoot, also referred to as “The Big Event,” will take place on Saturday, April 20, and serve as this year’s all-out celebration. In honor of Marion McCollum, the late owner of MPW and Game and Fish commissioner, this shoot will be a free shoot for registered Arkansas Youth Shooting Sports shooters, offering an opportunity for teens to shoot at the range before their regional and state tournaments, which begin in the late spring.
This tournament will also serve as an opportunity to experience the facility’s new 1800-foot-long Shot Curtain, which is used for many different things, including lead management and recovery for recycling shotgun shells, as well as providing a consistent sightline and background for shooters. The process of erecting this curtain began in late 2023 and will reach completion by spring 2024.
Sponsored by Winchester Rifles & Shotguns, each shooter who participates in The Big Event will receive a goodie bag. Even larger prizes will be awarded for top Junior and Senior Division Winners, as well as 1st-3rd place teams in Junior and Senior Divisions. This 50 Singles shoot will be run in YSS format, with shells and target rounds provided that must be used by the participants. Shoots will be in 30-minute increments with no scheduled time for any one team, so participants should expect to spend their day at the range.
Coaches are required to pre-squad their teams no later than Wednesday, April 17. This can be done via email to Jerry Hill, the range manager, at jhill@cityofjacksonville.net. On the day of the event, coaches should check in at 7:30 a.m. in the First Security Learning Center; first shots will begin at 9 a.m. For any additional questions, call the Shooting Sports Complex Staff at 501-241-2441.
To help celebrate the exciting milestone for the facility, the AGFF Shooting Sports Complex will have food trucks on-site, including Kona Ice of Central Arkansas, Donut NV and the Saucy Pig. Those who do not wish to participate are still welcome to the event to enjoy the show.
