University of Arkansas alumnus Ken Shollmier and his wife Linda Sue have committed $1 million to the Anthony Timberlands Center for Design and Materials Innovation.
The Anthony Timberlands Center for Design and Materials, currently under design by Grafton Architects of Dublin, Ireland, will house the Fay Jones School’s design-build program and fabrication technologies laboratories. It will also be the location of the new graduate program in timber and wood design.
The new center is expected the have a space named after the Shollmiers. This will be subject to Chancellor Joe Steinmetz and the Board of Trustees’ approval.
“I think it’s a wonderful thing for the state of Arkansas,” Shollmier said in a statement. “It’s a great thing – it’s fantastic. What architects have gone to a school that offered something like this? Arkansas will become well known for the Anthony Timberlands Center, because no one has anything like it.”
This gift is counted in the university’s Campaign Arkansas, which has raised approximately $1.45 billion in capital.
