The Sheridan School District has announced that Kevin Kelley will be the new coach of the Yellowjacket football program. The district made the decision at its monthly board of education meeting on Monday, Dec. 11.
From 2003 to 2020, Coach Kelley worked at Pulaski Academy where he led the school to nine state titles. He’s taking over the role at Sheridan after the resignation of Tyler Turner, who spent just one season with the district.
Kelley is also nationally known for his fourth-down no-punt strategy, which he received positive attention for from coaches at various levels of football. He was named “High School Coach of the Year” by USA Today in 2016 and has been inducted into the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame.
Sheridan School District Superintendent Karla Neathery made the following statement regarding the new hire:
“We are very excited to hire someone with Coach Kelley’s incredible record of success. Coach Kelley’s unique approach and vast knowledge of the game have led to many great achievements. This is certainly a home-run hire, and we look forward to a bright future for the Yellowjacket football program under Coach Kelley’s leadership.”
