The Brideway’s medical director of substance use disorder has been named a Fellow for the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM).
John Schay, M.D. was named to the society, which is a professional medical society made up of more than 6,600 physicians, clinicians and other professionals in the addiction medicine sector. The organization aims to increase access to addiction treatment and improve the quality of treatment, as well as provide public education. ASAM also supports addiction research.
ASAM was founded in 1954 and the Fellows program was established in 1996. More than 300 individuals have received the Fellow designation since the program’s establishment.
Schay is board-certified in addiction medicine with the American Board of Preventive Medicine and in psychiatry with the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
He holds a medical degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and completed a psychiatry residency at UAMS in 2009.
