After more than a year of speculation, Sarah Huckabee Sanders is expected to announce her candidacy for governor on Monday. Multiple news outlets, both local and national, have reported on the development.Â
Sanders, who is the daughter of former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, served as the White House press secretary for President Donald Trump for two of his four years in office. She left her post in 2019 and has reportedly eyed the job of Arkansas Governor ever since.Â
After her departure from the White House, then President Trump tweeted an endorsement for her candidacy.Â
“She is a very special person with extraordinary talents, who has done an incredible job,” Trump tweeted. “I hope she decides to run for Governor of Arkansas — she would be fantastic.”
Sanders will join Lt. Gov. Tim Griffin and Attorney General Leslie Rutledge, who have already declared, on the Republican ticket.Â
