The Arkansas Razorbacks have secured a bowl spot for the first time since 2016.
On Thursday, Dec. 31, the Hogs will face off with Texas Christian University (TCU) in the Mercari Texas Bowl. The bowl game will be held at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas at 7 p.m., and the game will be televised on ESPN.
This will be the 43rd bowl game for the Razorback football program. Its first bowl appearance was in 1934 in the Dixie Classic against Centenary; the teams tied 7-7.
The last bowl game the Razorbacks played in was the 2016 Belk Bowl. On Dec. 29, 2016, the Razorbacks faced off with Virginia Tech, losing 35-24. The team’s last win came in January 2016, when the Hogs played Kansas State at the Liberty Bowl, winning 45-23.
TCU and the Razorbacks have a storied history, having faced each other 70 times previously, with the upcoming bowl game being the 71stgame between the two programs. The last game between the Hogs and Horned Frogs came in 2017 with TCU coming out on top, 28-7. However, Arkansas has the overall win record, having a 44-24-2 record against TCU.
Currently, the Razorbacks have a 3-7 record for the 2020 football season under first-year head coach Sam Pittman. The team has a 2-3 win-loss ratio for home games and a 1-4 win-loss ratio for away games.
The team is on a four-game losing streak, having dropped games against Florida, LSU, Missouri and Alabama. Their last win was against Tennessee on Saturday, Nov. 7.
