Razorback football legend and prominent businessman Jim Lindsey died Sunday night, July 19, after an undisclosed illness at the age of 81.
A native of Caldwell in St. Francis County, Lindsey was a mainstay as a running back on the Razorbacks’ 1964 Southwest Conference and national championship team. In 1966, he was drafted in the second rounds of both the NFL and AFL drafts. He signed with Minnesota of the NFL and played seven seasons with the Vikings, mostly as a kick and punt returner, before retiring. Following his pro career, he founded Lindsey & Associates in Fayetteville, which grew into one of the state’s largest real estate development firms.

Lindsey’s apartment and golf properties span several states. In 2011, a documentary chronicling Lindsey’s rural Delta upbringing, his football career and his rise to success as a real estate developer, The Jim Lindsey Story, was released. It was narrated by Lindsey’s Razorback teammate and owner of the Dallas Cowboys, Jerry Jones.
“We are saddened by the loss of Arkansas legend Jim Lindsey,” Razorback Football posted to social media. “He made Arkansas a better place in many ways. His family and friends are in our thoughts.”
Lindsey was a former member of the University of Arkansas System board of trustees.
