Oaklawn Racing Casino Resort has donated a significant $500,000 to the Razorback Foundation at the University of Arkansas, as stated by Oaklawn President Louis Cella. This contribution aims to bolster Razorback Athletics’ financial resources during challenging economic times.
Cella, an alumnus of the University of Arkansas School of Law, emphasized the importance of supporting the Razorbacks as they compete in the Southeastern Conference (SEC), widely regarded as the toughest conference in college sports.
“If the Razorbacks are going to remain competitive, it’s going to take backing from all of us,” Cella stated.
Razorback Head Football Coach Sam Pittman expressed gratitude for the support from Oaklawn and other business leaders.
“This is what it is going to take for us to compete in the SEC and nationally,” Pittman said.
For over a century, both the Razorbacks and Oaklawn have been pillars of Arkansas sports. Cella reflected on Oaklawn’s own past struggles within the racing industry and expressed satisfaction at being able to offer support. He also called on other Arkansas businesses to consider contributing to help strengthen the University’s athletic programs.
In addition to the donation, Oaklawn plans to integrate the Razorback Foundation into its Everi Cares Giving Module, which allows patrons to donate to local charities through gaming voucher kiosks.
