North Little Rock Mayor Joe Smith is setting the stage for reopening his city.
Smith posted an online, pre-recorded COVID-19 address on Thursday, May 14, detailing the city’s plans for reopening municipal offices and other facilities. His address included information on the reopening of courts and city offices, pavilions and club houses, and pools and splash pads.
The city of North Little Rock offices will open on June 1. Criminal court will open on May 19, and traffic court will open on June 8. Masks are required, and guests are not allowed.
The pavilions in Burns Park and city clubhouses will be open for reservations on May 19. Both limit capacity to 50 or fewer and have specific guidelines for sanitary precautions.
The community center swimming pools at North Heights and Sherman Park and the community center splash pad at Glenview will open on June 5. Social distancing, sanitary measures and designated sessions of open swim will be enforced.
The mayor also addressed the forming of the North Little Rock Small Business Council, which will be “assisting with ideas on how to open, how to navigate funding available from state and federal, and putting together some of the requirements for the city’s fund that will be used for small businesses,” according to Robert Birch, director of workforce development and education. The council met for the first time this week.
“[Coronavirus] is not over,” Smith said. “We are fighting the best we can to continue to give you the service you need.”
