Murphy USA’s “Store of Tomorrow” is coming to Jacksonville.
The gas station and convenience store will be one of up to 55 new locations Murphy USA plans to open across the U.S. this year. A press release referred to the stores as part of Murphy USA’s “next generation retail concept” — the “store of tomorrow.”
Jacksonville city officials were scheduled to break ground Monday morning at the site of the planned store, located at 1900 John Hardin Drive, which used to be home to a Centennial Bank branch.
“We are honored that Murphy USA has chosen to invest in Jacksonville,” said Mayor Jeff Elmore. “With the new Store of Tomorrow opening in the same time frame as the completion of the Interstate 57 construction through our city, travelers through Jacksonville will have the convenience of refueling at a clean, modern facility before returning to their travels. We welcome Murphy USA to Jacksonville and anticipate the impact it will bring.”
Murphy USA, based in El Dorado, is the former retail arm of Murphy Oil, formerly based in El Dorado as well but now headquartered in Houston.
The Store of Tomorrow concept will provide customers with a modern experience through an enhanced store layout, expanded product offerings and self-checkout kiosks, according to the release.
“Murphy USA is just one of a number of retail and industrial projects that the city of Jacksonville excitedly anticipates announcing in the coming weeks and months,” said Economic Development Director Robert Birch. “The company choosing to invest in our city through this construction and new store concept is profound, and we look forward to the opportunities that Murphy USA will bring.”
Construction on the Jacksonville location is expected to be complete by the end of 2026, coinciding with the anticipated completion of the Arkansas Department of Transportation’s expansion of Interstate 57 through the city.
