After months of waiting, the Mueller report is now out.
On Thursday, April 18, U.S. Department of Justice released special counsel Robert Mueller’s report on alleged Russian interference and collusion in the 2016 presidential election.
The 448-page report is the result of 22 months of investigations by Mueller and a team of investigators. However, the public will not be able to read the full report. Parts of the document are redacted. According to NPR, the redacted segments fall into four categories: grand jury materials, intelligence materials, information connected to ongoing investigations and “derogatory information about ‘peripheral’ individuals.”
During his investigation, Mueller determined that there was no clear evidence of collusion with Russian by President Donald Trump’s campaign, and Mueller concluded that he could not reach a conclusion on obstruction by the president.
At the end of his report, Mueller wrote, “The evidence we obtained about the president’s actions and intent presents difficult issues that would need to be resolved if we were making a traditional prosecutorial judgment. At the same time, if we had confidence after a thorough investigation of the facts that the president clearly did not commit obstruction of justice, we would so state. Based on the facts and the applicable legal standards, we are unable to reach that judgment. Accordingly, while this report does not conclude that the president committed a crime, it also does not exonerate him.”
