Arkansas Children’s has tapped a new president for its research institute.
Dr. Pete Mourani has been selected to lead the Arkansas Children’s Research Institute (ACRI) as president. He will also serve as senior vice president and chief research officer for the health system.
He is set to begin his new roles on Dec. 7.
“We know Dr. Mourani’s strong track record of NIH funding, his clinical research background, and his strong leadership skills will ensure Arkansas Children’s succeeds in our five-year strategic plan of fully integrating research across our entire system,” Arkansas Children’s president and CEO Marcy Doderer said in a statement. “Arkansas children face a brighter future as ACRI makes more discoveries and breakthroughs on their behalf with his guidance.”
Board-certified in pediatric pulmonary and critical care medicine, Mourani will be a professor of Pediatrics and Pediatric Critical Care in the College of Medicine at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS)and will hold the Ross and Mary Whipple Family Distinguished Research Scientist Endowed Chair at Arkansas Children’s.
Most recently, he served as a professor of pediatrics at the University of Colorado and Children’s Colorado Hospital. He was also the medical director for the Children’s Hospital Colorado Research Institute.
