The 2020 Minor League Baseball season has been cancelled, the organization announced Tuesday, meaning no baseball this summer for the Arkansas Travelers and Northwest Arkansas Naturals.
The move was made after Major League Baseball informed the minor leagues that it would be unable to supply players due to the pandemic. The Travs and Naturals, members of the Class AA Texas League, are the state’s only minor league teams.
In a statement, the Travelers said the club would be contacting season ticket holders and partners over the next few weeks to discuss options. 2020 will mark the first year since 1962 that the Travs have not fielded a team and just the third summer since 1915 that Central Arkansas will not host professional baseball.Â
Major League Baseball will conduct a shortened 2020 season. Play will commence on July 23 and and run through September 27 with the postseason beginning on September 29.
