Representatives from Lyon College and Entegrity Energy Partners recently celebrated the activation of a 1.3 MW solar array, marking a significant achievement in their collaboration.
This partnership includes a solar services agreement, allowing Lyon College to purchase renewable energy from Entegrity to cover about 30% of its electricity needs. Additionally, energy-efficient LED lighting has been installed in several campus buildings.
“The college aims to reduce its carbon footprint and promote the use of renewable energy. By working with Entegrity, Lyon College is not only cutting costs but also investing in the future of sustainable energy on campus. This aligns with the college’s broader mission to be a responsible steward of environmental resources,” Lyon College President Dr. Melissa Taverner said.
Project discussions began nearly two years ago with goals to advance sustainability, reduce energy costs and promote environmental stewardship. Now completed, the project is projected to save the college approximately $2.5 million in energy costs over the life of the contracts. By purchasing solar energy at a lower rate, Lyon College anticipates significant long-term savings and stabilized energy expenses.
The college also plans to integrate educational initiatives to foster a culture of sustainability among students and staff, extending the impact beyond the physical changes on campus.
