The Lyon College School of Dental Medicine held its first-ever white coat ceremony March 20 in Little Rock.
The ceremony at Second Presbyterian Church marked a defining moment for the Class of 2028 as 80 first-year students at Arkansas’ first dental school received their white coats, symbolizing their transition into clinical training and their commitment to patient-centered care, ethics and professional integrity.
“Today is an important day in the history of these students and in their journey. It’s an important day for Arkansas and an important day for Lyon College,” said Dr. Burke Soffe, founding dean, in welcoming remarks. “In dentistry, the white coat ceremony represents the transition from learning about dentistry to beginning the journey of patient care.”
The Lyon College School of Dental Medicine will open its patient care clinics later this spring.
