The Little Rock city board on Tuesday failed to pass a proposal that would have temporarily halted development of data centers in the city.
The proposal would’ve placed an 18-month moratorium on the development of data centers in Little Rock, including Google’s planned project at the Port of Little Rock. The vote was 4-4 with board members Antwan Phillips and Ken Richardson not present. It needed six votes to pass.
Director Kathy Webb, the proposal sponsor, joined Andrea Lewis, Virgil Miller Jr. and Vice Mayor BJ Wyrick, who is running to replace Mayor Frank Scott Jr., in voting to approve the moratorium. Directors Lance Hines, Dean Kumpuris, Capi Peck and Joan Adcock voted no.
A three-hour public discussion period preceded the vote. Webb said she would bring the issue back to the board.
