Lockheed Martin will break ground Thursday on a munitions acceleration center in Camden.
The move is being made to support production of more Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) interceptors for the U.S. Department of War. Lockheed and the federal government signed a framework agreement for the company to quadruple its production of THAADs from 96 to 400 per year. It is the latest in the company’s multi-billion-dollar investment to expand capacity for priority systems, according to a press release.
The announcement builds on the first-of-its-kind agreement signed between the parties earlier this month to accelerate production of PAC-3® Missile Segment Enhancement (MSE) interceptors.
The planned “world-class facility” will prepare the workforce of the future to build THAAD, PAC-3 and other capabilities using advanced manufacturing, robotics and digital technologies, the release said.
Lockheed will increase production of THAAD interceptors from its current 96 per year over the next seven years. An initial contract award on the THAAD framework agreement is expected in the fiscal year 2026.
