The Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System’s Surgical Service is stopping operation room cases through Friday, Aug. 16.
On Wednesday, Aug. 14, the Department of Veterans Affairs announced the cessation of services at John L. McClellan Memorial Veterans Hospital for remainder of the week, saying that it is part of the department’s efforts to “refocus surgical staff on their role in a high-reliability organization.”
Surgical staff will be required to participate in sessions regarding patient safety, quality control and more during the interim period. During this time, surgeries will be rescheduled or scheduled at non-VA facilities.
“We are committed to continuously improving patient safety,” Margie Scott, M.D., Medical Center director, said. “Anytime we are concerned that we’re not performing at our highest level, we take a step back, reset and refocus our efforts.”
