A relocation tech company, moveBuddha, released a report recently revealing The Top City Everyone Wants to Move to in Every State in 2024, naming Little Rock the top city for Arkansas. The group analyzed over 50,000 searches made by Americans planning a move in 2024.
The report was made using data from searches made using moveBuddha’s Move Cost Calculator between July 2023 and March 15, 2024, where searchers specified that they planned to move in the calendar year 2024, according to a release.
According to the report, homes in Little Rock average just over $200,000, coming in much lower than the national average of $375,000. It also revealed a trend that movers are “flocking to smaller cities with bustling communities and close to outdoor recreation.”
Not just first in the state, Little Rock also comes in the top 25 for most desired cities nationwide, landing itself at No. 12. The city’s population of about 200,000 lines up with the top cities list’s national average. For those planning to move this year, the move-in ratio stands at 1.97, or 197 looking to relocate to Little Rock per every 100 looking to leave. Also landing on the company’s top 10 most affordable cities list, it has the highest in-to-out ratio on the list.
“Little Rock is a city offering a high quality of life without the congestion of larger urban centers, a perfect place for those looking for life in a smaller city with strong communities and access to larger metropolitan areas,” the release stated.
Here’s how Little Rock ranked among the other top move-to cities:
| Rank | City, State | In-to-out Move Ratio |
| 1 | The Villages, FL | 4.38 |
| 2 | Asheville, NC | 3.29 |
| 3 | Myrtle Beach, SC | 3.22 |
| 4 | Billings, MT | 2.41 |
| 5 | Decatur, GA | 2.39 |
| 6 | Chattanooga, TN | 2.21 |
| 7 | Conroe, TX | 2.14 |
| 8 | Cheyenne, WY | 2.13 |
| 9 | Burlington, VT | 2.11 |
| 10 | Boulder, CO | 2.10 |
| 11 | Eugene, OR | 2.00 |
| 12 | Little Rock, AR | 1.97 |
The in-to-out ratio: A ratio above 1 indicates more people are searching to move into the city, while below 1 indicates more residents are leaving. This ratio can also be expressed as “ratio x100” moves in for every 100 out. Example: The move in-to-out ratio in Asheville of 3.29 indicates that for every 329 searches for moves into the city there are 100 out.
