Little Rock city officials and local homeless advocates broke ground Wednesday on a $3 million project designed to help the homeless transition to permanent housing.
The Micro Home Village, which will be able to house up to 206 people at any given time, will be located at 3405 W. Roosevelt Road. The two-acre property that the village will occupy is the former site of the Colonial Court Hotel, located next door to the Magnolia Retirement Center.
The property will eventually house 80 non-congregate beds in the first phase of construction, followed by 20 emergency beds and a 5,000-foot community center.
Funding for the project came from a $1.5 million grant from the American Rescue Plan through the Department of Housing and Urban Development, as well as $1.5 million in funds from the city. The initial phase of the project is expected to take six to eight months to complete. Then construction will begin on a community center.
