The Little Rock Municipal Airport Commission took an important step toward proposed renovations during a meeting on Tuesday. The group reviewed proposed concept designs presented by Alliiance, a Minneapolis-based architecture firm.
The new additions would include a new baggage claim and larger TSA checkpoint, additional gates, additional space for restaurants, retail and other amenities, an outdoor terrace beyond the security checkpoint and improved circulation throughout the terminal.
“We’re taking a proactive approach to planning for the future,” said Suzanne Peyton, executive director of Clinton National Airport. “By engaging the public now, we can make informed decisions that improve the passenger experience and support economic growth. The airport commission is committed to making thoughtful investments that support our region while contributing to a strong statewide aviation system.”
The new plans are built based on public outreach conducted through the AirportNEXT community survey. Airport leadership is using the feedback to help shape a long-term vision centered on the passenger experience and the airport’s role in serving Arkansas for the next 30 years. The construction is expected to start in 2028.
Construction on the new central utility plant has already started at the airport. This plant will provide the infrastructure necessary to power the future terminal expansion.
Airport leadership is still open to public input and those interested in participating can attend an upcoming meeting from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. July 30 at First Baptist Church (East) Fellowship Hall, located at 901 Calhoun Street just west of the airport.
