A second location for the Jonesboro Police Department is now secured, with the city making a $2.75 million purchase of the former Shelter Insurance office building at 1709 East Highland Drive.
A 14,418-square-foot office building, the property is set to accommodate 30 to 35 JPD employees. The City of Jonesboro was represented Jerry Halsey and Landon Wilson of Jonesboro-headquartered Halsey Real Estate. Shelter Mutual Insurance was the seller, represented by Andrew Wiechern and Isaac Smith of Colliers | Arkansas.
“Landon and I were happy to work together on this unique opportunity to put an existing, well-located building to work for an important public purpose,” said Halsey, president and CEO of Halsey Real Estate. “The property gives the city the space and accessibility it needs for several police functions while it works toward a long-term downtown solution.”
The property will be used as a worksite for the JPD on an interim basis. The building includes 51 parking spaces, 29 offices and two conference rooms. City officials have said the location will house several functions, including administration, records, criminal investigations, community outreach and DARE programs.
“Demand for quality office space has continued to strengthen since the pandemic, particularly for well-located properties,” Wiechern said. “This building fits the bill with a great location on a signalized corner, excellent visibility, strong signage opportunities and plenty of parking. Colliers was pleased to have the opportunity to help bring this transaction together.”
The Highland Drive property is expected to serve police operations for several years while longer-term plans for a new downtown police station move forward. The transaction closed Friday, Aug. 21.
