Gov. Asa Hutchinson provided his daily COVID-19 update today (Aug. 13) and pointed out “a couple consistent days of decline” in the number of new COVID-19 cases, active cases and related hospitalizations.
He reported 652 new COVID-19 cases with 639, bringing the cumulative number of cases in Arkansas to 51,766.
The number of hospitalizations has declined by 13 to 473 while the number of deaths has increased by nine to 582. There are 6,582 active cases with 5,776 in the community, 735 in correctional facilities and 71 in nursing homes. The number of recoveries has increased by 786 to 44,602.
The governor said the decline in numbers has led to a downward trend.
“We hope that trend can continue, but we know that there is nothing guaranteed,” he said. “Just because you start a trend does not mean that trend is going to continue, but it is a good place to start and it all depends upon individual actions of people in Arkansas.”
Yesterday, 5,192 COVID-19 tests were completed. Since the beginning of August, there have been 67,416 tests completed across the state.
