As president and publisher of AY Media Group and a 30-year veteran of the publishing industry, Heather Baker knows everything there is to know about putting out quality content, but it is not every day that she is the one being featured. International business magazine The Enterprise World turned the tables on the highly decorated Baker, putting her on the cover of their August installment of its Americas Edition.
“It was really a thrill to be featured by The Enterprise World,” Baker said. “It was an interesting experience to be on the other side of the interview for a change, but I really appreciated the opportunity to share some of the things I’ve learned over three decades in this industry.
“Despite what some people have been saying for a while now, media is as important as it has ever been, provided it is done correctly. I’ve always believed that leading with purpose, striving to elevate others through our content and maintaining the audience’s trust through ethical, responsible journalism is a winning formula. I was honored to have a forum to express that in the pages of The Enterprise World this month.”
Based in Ohio, The Enterprise World boasts 356,000 subscribers for its editions targeting business and executive audiences in Europe, Middle East/Africa and Asia Pacific, as well as the Americas. The company also puts on one of the most exclusive worldwide leadership events, Next Conclave, which brings together C-suite executives, entrepreneurs, thought leaders and innovators from around the globe. The 2026 Next Conclave is slated for Oct. 31 to Nov. 1 in Dubai, UAE.
Baker’s piece details her strategy for building award-winning, purposeful magazines in an era when most publications struggle for credibility and readership.
“Trust is a commodity that many publications struggle to establish or maintain, and an alarming number don’t pay attention to it at all,” Baker said. “That is the media which is on borrowed time, be it in Arkansas or anywhere else. The outlets that prioritize trust, ethics and accountability, such as AY Media Group, will always have a place in the market.”
As part of her 30-year career shaping Arkansas media, Baker joined Vowell, now AY Media Group, in 2017 as publisher and became president in 2021. Since then, she has led flagship titles AY About You — the state’s largest lifestyle magazine — and Arkansas Money & Politics, plus the annual Arkansas Mental Health Guide Magazine.
Under her leadership, AY Media Group has earned the 2018 Henry Award; 2019, 2022, 2024 and 2026 Arkansas Country Music Awards Publication of the Year; 2026 Award of Excellence by Arkansas Press Association, and hundreds of journalism awards at the state, regional and national levels. She has also directed the resources and reach of the company’s magazines in service to various charitable organizations each year to the tune of millions of dollars’ worth of publicity and support, in many cases personally acting as emcee.
Baker is also an influencer thanks to her diverse media background that has also includes opportunities in television, radio and online. Most recently she and her husband, Ryan Parker, were announced as cast members for the forthcoming dramatic TV series The Big D, soon to be released via streaming services.
The Enterprise World, a prominent, global B2B digital and print business magazine, shares success stories, market trends and executive insights from successful business figures such as Baker from around the globe. The journal’s intellectual capital is distributed across three main pillars:
- The Enterprise Diary: A sophisticated news and analysis desk tracking disruptive technologies, healthcare paradigms and market-moving fiscal updates.
- Macro Market Intelligence: Rigorous breakdowns of evolving global supply chains, regulatory reforms and shifting consumer demographics.
- The Leadership Matrix: Exclusive profiles evaluating the strategic methodologies, operational frameworks and risk-mitigation strategies of elite executives.
Magazine leadership said Baker’s expertise and leadership story consummately matched the publication’s focus as being a primary information platform for startups, small-scale enterprises and corporate leaders.
“More than just a story of media growth, this feature explores a leadership philosophy centered on purpose, people, trust and community impact,” wrote the magazine’s editor Alok M. in the foreword. “[Heather] Baker’s journey reflects how visionary media leadership can connect businesses, nonprofits, leaders and communities while helping shape a stronger future for Arkansas.”
Among Baker’s insights in the wide-ranging article are addressing some of the most important new elements affecting media and publishing, as well as the foundational aspects that are as true today as ever:
At a time when the public’s opinion of media has become increasingly fragmented, trust is any organization’s most valuable asset, one that must be earned repeatedly.”
She also goes into great detail concerning leadership and how to build a cohesive team through accountability and vision:
I often remind my team that excellence is rarely the result of one extraordinary moment. It is built through consistent attention to detail, accountability, preparation, and an ongoing commitment to improving every edition, every project and every relationship.”
Most of all, Baker illustrates the importance of purposeful media, of creating stories and content that uplifts and improves both reader and subject:
My goal has never been to build media platforms simply for the sake of growth. The goal has always been to build platforms that help other people succeed.”
“Heather Baker’s approach is counter-cultural in a lot of ways,” said Dwain Hebda, AY Media Group editor-in-chief. “In an era where anyone can publish just about anything in pursuit of clicks, generally without accountability, Heather never loses sight of the value of reputation and relationships, which drives everything she does in media.
“She often says, ‘Attention can be gained overnight; trust is built over years and can be lost in a moment,’ and she is absolutely right. Everything she has built she has built the right way, and I’m so proud to be able to work alongside that. I’m also delighted to see her get the recognition she is due, such as through this cover story which allows her to share her time-proven expertise and insights with a global audience.”
