Students from Little Rock Southwest High School and Hall/West High School stepped into the fast-paced world of journalism Tuesday, March 10, during a special job-shadow experience hosted by Arkansas Money & Politics Magazine.
The 11th-grade students visited the publication’s office in Little Rock to observe professionals working across journalism, publishing and media operations. The visit offered a behind-the-scenes look at how a regional magazine produces stories, manages media platforms and connects with audiences throughout Arkansas.
“As president and publisher of AY Media Group, which proudly publishes Arkansas Money & Politics, I was truly honored to host these talented students from Little Rock Southwest High School and Hall/West High School for today’s Junior Achievement job shadow experience. As a longtime supporter and State Board Member of Junior Achievement of Arkansas, I believe it’s essential for us as leaders to step up as role models, offering real-world insights through job shadowing, mentorship and genuine guidance,” said Heather Baker. “Showing young people what a career in media, publishing and storytelling truly looks like helps ignite their potential and equips them with the wisdom to pursue their paths with confidence. It was a privilege to share our world with them today, and I look forward to many more opportunities to inspire and guide the next generation of Arkansas leaders.”
The experience allowed students to move beyond the classroom and see storytelling and content creation in action while learning about career paths in communications, journalism, marketing and media production.
“Experiences like this are exactly what Junior Achievement strives to create for students,” said Antwanette Smith, Central Arkansas program manager with Junior Achievement of Arkansas. “We are incredibly grateful for partners like Arkansas Money & Politics who are willing to open their doors and share their expertise. Through collaborations like this, Junior Achievement helps connect students with real professionals and real workplaces, giving them a clearer understanding of the many career paths available and helping them envision their own future with confidence.”
Job-shadow experiences are part of Junior Achievement’s ongoing efforts to connect students with real-world learning opportunities that support career readiness, financial literacy and entrepreneurship education.
