Heartland Forward, a Bentonville think tank focused on economic development in the American heartland, has added a chief research officer to its ranks. Dr. David Shideler is taking on the role of CRO for the “think and do” tank.
As the chief research officer, Shideler will develop original research in multiple categories, including regional competitiveness, innovation and entrepreneurship, building human capital, and addressing health risks and disparities.
“I am thrilled to welcome David to Heartland Forward to drive our robust research agenda,” Ross DeVol, President and CEO of Heartland Forward, said in a statement. “Through his work in both academia and community development, Dave has a unique and deep expertise on important economic issues such as the critical role that entrepreneurs play in community vibrancy. I look forward to putting his research and ideas into action to help the Heartland reach its full potential.
Most recently, Shideler served as a professor at Oklahoma State University in the Department of Agricultural Economics, as well as a Community and Economic Development Specialist.
“I am excited to join the Heartland Forward team and help advance their mission of economic renewal in the American Heartland,” Shideler said. “As the son of Heartland natives, their work hits close to home for me. I’m looking forward to conducting research that can lead to real-world solutions.
He obtained a doctorate in Agricultural, Environmental and Development Economicsas well as a master’s degree in economics from Ohio State University, and a M.S. in agricultural economics from Pennsylvania State University. He holds a bachelor’s degree in community and rural development from Clemson University.
