Google is behind the $1 billion data center planned for the Port of Little Rock, sources have told multiple media outlets.
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette first reported the news. Google has yet to make an official announcement. The tech giant is already investing $4 billion in a data center on more than 1,000 acres in West Memphis.
Recently, Connecticut-based AVAIO announced plans for a $6 billion data center on 760 acres in south Little Rock. Billed as the largest economic-development project in state history, AVAIO Digital Leo, as it will be called, is expected to be completed by June of 2027, with construction scheduled to begin early this year. Total investment over multiple phases is expected to top $21 billion. The campus is expected to house advanced computing, networking, data storage and power infrastructure related to cloud computing and artificial intelligence technologies.
The alleged Google project at the port received approval from Little Rock’s board of directors in April of last year, with the name of the company not revealed. Willowbend Capital has served as the company’s representative.
